Charles and Albert return to Walnut Grove after Albert has repeated run-ins with the law for curfew violations and theft. They learned to churn butter, blacksmith and use a washboard. They toured a replica of the Ingalls' house, the Oleson's Mercantile, and the one-room school house. Harriet Oleson has learned from Mr. Webb that Willie was among the boys peering through Sylvia's window. With her characteristic outrage, Harriet reprimands Willie, but is somewhat placated when Willie promises her that he didn't see anything. Fueled by leading questions from his mother, Willie claims that Sylvia is deliberately enticing all the boys at school. Outraged, Harriet calls a school council meeting, before which Sylvia must appear.

Charles is unsuccessful in telling Albert he has school and college to worry about first, so he leaves it up to Caroline to counsel Albert. When Sylvia is walking home through the woods that afternoon, stopping to pick flowers, she is suddenly seized by an unknown assailant in a clown mask, who then rapes her (off-screen). Hours later, a battered and bruised Sylvia finally makes her way home, where her father helps her to bed.
Meanwhile, after Sylvia's father calls her a whore, she runs away. Mr. Webb barges into the Ingalls house armed with a rifle, but when Albert affirms that he did not get Sylvia pregnant, Mr. Webb finally accepts this. Albert gets a job with the town's blacksmith, Irv Hartwig. But obviously unaware that Irv Hartwig is the man who raped Sylvia, Albert discloses Sylvia's whereabouts, which leads to a final and deadly confrontation in which the rapist's identity is exposed. Because it was television, we thought [it wouldn't be as graphic]. Sylvia was a 15-year-old girl who lived with her widowed father, Hector Webb.

Sylvia begs for her father to back off, but suspecting that she may be sneaking around, he calls her a liar.
