Finally, I felt knowledgeable enough to work in “candy land,” The Stitch House. And best of all, I get to combine my love of teaching with my love of knitting to bring the joy of knitting to all who want to learn. As I became more experienced, I wanted to share the joy that I had discovered with others. I set up a knitting table at our weekly farmer’s market, and freely taught anyone who came up to learn.

As I began finishing projects, I discovered the joy of giving something that I had knit, stitch by stitch, to someone special. After all those special people—including our dog—had a gift, and after I had more scarves that I could ever wear, I began knitting for those most in need. Here was another way that I could use my craft to offer comfort and caring to people who may not even have one hat, or one scarf to protect them from the cold. “My goal was to move to a cool place, open a store and change the image of sewing. I think having an outlet or a creative hobby is ‘sew’ important, and I know sewing can provide that for so many people,” Jessica said.

And only then, because I desperately wanted a Dale of Norway ski sweater. Once I took it up, though, I was thoroughly hooked! In a yarn shop, I was like a kid in a candy store. Once I got over “beginner frustration,” I settled down into the slower pace that knitting necessitates.

So, come on over and experience the joy of sewing at our specialty store. Immerse yourself in a world of fabrics, threads, and machines while learning, sharing, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. There's so much to explore, and we can't wait to be part of your sewing journey. Robyn comes from a family of talented women who are knitters, crocheters, sewers, and embroiderers. There are actually four elephants visible in the architecture of the house. Of all Harvard’s undergraduate Houses, no building brings the outdoors inside like Currier. “The tree house” is all about the landscape where alternate sloping and sunken hillsides are organic, serene, and tree-filled. In the common room called “the fishbowl” there are oversized windows that face the slopes. On a winter day this space transforms to feel more like a snow globe than a fishbowl. On Friday, Housing Day, first-year students will find out which House they will live in for the rest of their time at Harvard. Similarly, the Eliot elephant comes from the crest of the Eliot family coat-of-arms and apparently, its facial characteristics were inspired by the profile of the first master of the House, Roger "Frisky" Merriman, and drawn by President Eliot's grandson.

The HoCo chairs were also especially excited about “Espresso Dave.” For 20 years, “Espresso Dave” has come to Eliot before finals to provide students with a free Starbucks-eque menu. While the actual barista (and therefore the barista’s name) has changed, Eliot residents still call them “Espresso Dave” and that’s that. TOKYO (Reuters) - U.S. hedge fund Elliott Management Corp has bought a stake in Sumitomo Corp worth several tens of billions of yen, a person familiar with the situation said on Tuesday. She died on July 29, 1974 at the age of 32 while in London to perform a series of concerts as a solo performer at the London Palladium. She passed away in her sleep at the London flat owned by Harry Nilsson at 9 Curzon Place, London where she was staying. According to her autopsy, her death was due to “heart failure due to fatty myocardial degeneration due to obesity”. Smith recounts that on her “first day moving in, [she] ran into someone who lived on the fifth floor and he just immediately helped [her] carry [her] things upstairs.” So, if you want to experience a fun meet-cute on your first day of school, Eliot could be the place for you!

Elliott Management Corp. has built a “large” stake in Sumitomo Corp., one of Warren Buffett’s favorite Japanese trading houses, according to a person familiar with the matter. Eyer, the CMPD officer whose death was announced Monday night, is survived by his wife and a 3-year-old son, the police chief said. The secretary of the state Adult Corrections Department identified two of the other people killed as Samuel Poloche and William "Alden" Elliott, both of whom had been with the department for 14 years and were on the marshals task force. Eliot’s supportive community shines in their avid intramural participation.

In February, he said in his letter to investors that the companies follow shareholder-friendly policies that are “superior” to those practiced in the US. Sumitomo shares reached their highest ever last week, and have climbed 27% this year. The size of the activist group’s investment is around “several tens of billions of yen,” the person said, asking not to be identified because the transaction hasn’t been publicly disclosed. Every ¥10 billion ($64 million) investment is equivalent to a 0.2% stake in Sumitomo, based on Friday’s closing share price of ¥3,909. Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing, a biography by Benjamin Nugent, was rushed to publication shortly after From a Basement on the Hill, shortly after the first anniversary of his death. Smith's family, as well as Joanna Bolme, Jennifer Chiba, Neil Gust, Sam Coomes, and Janet Weiss, all declined to be interviewed.

Describing Eliot House in the late 1950s and early 1960s, author Alston Chase wrote, "[A]lthough most Harvard houses in those days reflected the values of Boston Brahmin society ... Eliot was more extreme". The Eliot Grille is one of the best hangout spots in Eliot and on campus as a whole. The checkered floors, flame-adorned walls, and fire-red booths give it the feel of a retro diner.

Pforzheimer, or PfoHo, as it’s known pfar and wide, is farthest north of all of Harvard’s undergraduate Houses; thus its polar bear mascot. Central in the horseshoe-shaped Radcliffe Quadrangle, with its wide and expansive lawn, is the well-proportioned and impressive Moors Hall, PfoHo’s showpiece. The house was originally built to accomodate two-hundred and ninety-four students in forty-seven single suites, ninety double suites, twenty-one triple suites, and one quadruple, ranging in price for each student from $100 to $580 a year. Freshmen (and they were, really, only men) were required to apply and interview for entrance to the House.

Often heard in the house is our beloved motto “Floreat Domus de Eliot”, which roughly translates to “Long Flourish Eliot House! Big days in a Domus year include the Annual Charity Bash and the legendary spring formal Fête. Big days in a Domus year include the Housing Day and the legendary spring formal Fête. A five-song CD featuring previously unreleased live recordings of Smith performing acoustically at Largo in Los Angeles was included in the release. I can't blieve that i have been part of this amazing community for 21 years and it's safe to say, that I probably have one of the best jobs at Harvard.

The HoCo chairs note that Eliot excels in rowing and volleyball, but even when they do not come out on top, the entire House receives a funny and extensive email play-by-play of the game. Eliot residents are full of house spirit and pride, and many often turn out to watch intramurals as well. His aim was for undergraduates to develop wider circles of friends and for House administrators and tutors to support student needs; each House was designed with a dining hall, library, and senior and junior common rooms for study, meetings, and collaboration.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. holds about 8.3% of Sumitomo, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. It also invests in other trading firms including Mitsubishi Corp., Mitsui & Co., Itochu Corp. and Marubeni Corp., and has said it hopes to eventually own 9.9% of each. Elliott Smith was released in November 2010 by Domino Records (UK) and Kill Rock Stars (US). I am thrilled to start my fifth year as Resident Dean of Eliot House.

I meet the students as FYs when they get their housing assignments on that famous Thursday in March and then I see them three years later walking across the terrace to receive their diplomas, and not to mention all the great things in between. While working at Eliot House I have met some great people, made lasting friendships, planned many functions and have done a lot of baking for the Faculty Deans, Open Houses.I am here to help you with any housing questions or concerns, reserving a room, or if you just want to chat. My office is located on the second floor of N entryway and is always open. The stock jumped as much as 9.1% Tuesday in Tokyo, leading its peers higher. The size of Elliott’s investment is around “several tens of billions of yen,” according to a person familiar with the matter. The company has engaged with Sumitomo and shared its views on ways to create shareholder value, the person said.

A request for comment from Bridges’ attorney was not immediately returned Wednesday evening. Bridges missed the first 10 games of this season as part of a league-imposed suspension. The Hornets and the NBA both said they were aware of the charges filed against Bridges, with the league noting it is investigating the allegations.

Bridges was arrested June 29 by Los Angeles police and was later released on $130,000 bond. Bridges' arrest came several hours after the Hornets extended a qualifying offer to the 6-foot-6-inch forward. Wednesday, and booked into jail about three hours later, according to online court records on the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was arrested on a felony charge, but no details about the charge were immediately available. All charges related to Hornets forward Miles Bridges’ latest legal issues have been dismissed, according to Mecklenburg County court documents. “Given her lack of memory and no other corroboration of the violation, the state would not be successful at trial,” the prosecutor said in the filing with the court.

The state said in a Charlotte Mecklenburg County Court filing that prosecutors would "not be successful at trial." The woman who accused Bridges gave conflicting stories of what happened, authorities said. “Given the lack of sufficient, evidence necessary to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial,” according to the court filing. A criminal complaint does not spell out exactly what allegedly occurred in regard to the child abuse charges, but it contains statutory language that includes physical pain and mental suffering. “Given the lack of sufficient evidence necessary to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial,” the court documents signed by prosecutor Samantha Pendergrass said.

The first one from Jan. 2 indicates Bridges contacted a person who has an active protection order against him. The second report from March 18 states Bridges and the person were in the same establishment, but at different times. And the third from Oct. 6 accuses Bridges of damaging the person’s property and violating a restraining order. Bridges also must adhere to a 10-year criminal protection order for the woman, weekly narcotics and marijuana testing, and restitution, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. Bridges was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department when he turned himself in.

Court Documents Say Criminal Charges Dismissed Against Hornets’ Miles Bridges

The filing also said that although the woman’s interaction with police was recorded by body cameras, the contact and content were not. Prosecutors also dismissed a separate charge against Bridges that he had violated a domestic violence protective order. A warrant for his arrest relating to that allegation had been issued on Jan. 2, 2023. Bridges pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Wednesday, the district attorney's office said. Back in late June, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges turned himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department after a warrant had been issued for his arrest following a reported domestic violence case.

The state said in a Charlotte Mecklenburg County Court filing that prosecutors would “not be successful at trial.” The woman who accused Bridges gave conflicting stories of what happened, authorities said. Bridges was released on $130,000 bail less than 24 hours from when the NBA free agency period began on June 30th at 6 pm. The Hornets, who put in a qualifying offer for Bridges earlier that month, have yet to rescind the offer. The LAPD said at the time of Bridges' arrest that it does not release police reports on domestic violence arrests. The case remains under investigation by the West Los Angeles branch of the LAPD. TMZ Sports reported, citing anonymous law enforcement sources, that Bridges was arrested on a domestic violence charge after a woman said she and Bridges were in an argument that turned physical.

News

According to the report, Bridges turned himself in Wednesday after an argument with an unidentified woman turned physical on Tuesday, June 28. The woman reportedly required medical attention, and Bridges was no longer at the scene when the police arrived. The NBA suspended Bridges last April for 30 games for violating its domestic violence policy. He missed all of last season and tolled 20 of those games during that absence, and served the final 10 to begin this season after he re-signed with the Hornets over the summer.

It’s unclear if Bridges’ latest legal entanglement could lead to an arrest and jail time. It’s also unclear why the warrant hasn’t been served after being issued in January. A criminal summons was issued Wednesday for Bridges, who’s accused of violating a protection order stemming from a domestic violence case that derailed his career last year. The Hornets announced on Wednesday they have extended qualifying offers to Bridges and teammate Cody Martin, allowing the squad to match any offers that arise from other teams. The prosecutor alleged that Bridges had contacted the woman on several social media platforms, which violated a no-contact order from the court. But the woman, the prosecutor wrote, doesn’t have those messages anymore and cannot remember the contacts or its content.

Charges against Miles Bridges connected to domestic violence case dropped

The filings, made in Mecklenburg County District Court, show that the district attorney dropped three charges against Bridges stemming from an October incident involving him and the mother of his children, who is also his ex-girlfriend. A criminal summons issued for Bridges alleged misdemeanor child abuse, injury to personal property and that he had violated a domestic violence protective order. Those charges were dismissed Thursday due to insufficient evidence, the prosecutor’s office said in a court filing. District Attorney George Gascon said his office filed one felony count of injuring a child's parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. According to the report, Bridges faces one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

“Given the lack of sufficient evidence necessary to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial,” the filing said. A separate charge for violating a domestic violence protection order stemming from an incident in January 2023 was also dropped, according to court records. The victim initially told police a female at the house caused the damage but told them a few days later it was Bridges.

The court documents filed on Tuesday stated that the victim gave different stories on who caused damage to her car’s windshield. The prosecutors said that contradictory statements provided by the accuser led to the dismissal. The accuser had initially told police that a woman had caused damage to her car, where she and her children were present, then gave a statement several days later that Bridges had caused the damage. She then gave another statement to prosecutors recently ahead of the trial that she was “unsure” how the damage was caused.

(AP) — Criminal charges connected to a domestic violence case against Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges were dropped Tuesday because of “insufficient evidence,” court documents show. The Hornets extended Bridges a qualifying offer on Tuesday, which allows them to a chance to match any offer sheet made by another team. Bridges, the Hornets’ leading scorer last season, is set to become a restricted free agent and could command a max contract in the coming weeks. The news comes on the eve of NBA free agency, which begins Thursday night with teams able to speak with free agents. A protective order had been granted on Nov. 3, 2022, involving the mother of his children, according to a criminal summons from January 2023, and was violated last May.

He pleaded no contest in November 2022 to one felony count of injuring a child’s parent, agreeing to do so in exchange for three years of probation and no jail time. The 25-year-old Bridges was also ordered to complete 52 weeks of parenting classes, 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and 100 hours of community service as part of the agreement. Superior Court documents say that when police officers responded to a call they found a woman and her children in a vehicle with a damaged windshield. She initially told police another woman at the house caused the damage, but then told them a few days later it was Bridges who inflicted the damage. Later, the woman told prosecutors she was unsure how her car was damaged, according to court documents. Every month, Eliot also offers enhanced dinners, complete with smoked salmon, pumpkin ravioli, and blueberry sauce. He was also in the process of recording songs for the Thumbsucker soundtrack, including Big Star's "Thirteen" and Cat Stevens's "Trouble".[76] In August 2003, Suicide Squeeze Records put out a limited-edition vinyl single for "Pretty (Ugly Before)", a song that Smith had been playing since the Figure 8 tour. Smith's final show was at Redfest at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on September 19, 2003. The final song he played live was "Long, Long, Long" by the Beatles. "We mourn for them and their loved ones. And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded," the president said in a statement. He also called for more funding for law enforcement and for Congress to do more to combat gun violence.

After his car crashed into a parked vehicle, he was found dead inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Smith was a heavy drinker and drug user, and was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and depression.[8] His struggles with drugs and mental illness affected his life and work, and often appeared in his lyrics. He died at his Los Angeles home from two stab wounds to the chest at age 34 in 2003.[9] The autopsy evidence did not determine whether the wounds were self-inflicted.[10] At the time of his death, Smith was working on his album From a Basement on the Hill, posthumously produced and released in 2004. Eliot also has smaller events like steins — Thursday night community events with a constant turnout of at least 50 to 100 people. During steins, attendees enjoy pizza, snacks, and drinks and participate in fun activities. They almost always get crashed by students in other houses because Eliot is just simply the place to be.

NEW YORK/LONDON -- U.S. hedge fund Elliott Management has acquired a stake in Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp. worth tens of billions of yen (10 billion yen equals $64 million), in a possible prelude to an activist shareholder push, people familiar with the matter said. Born in London, England, he moved to the United States with his parents at age five.[38] He was raised in Los Angeles. After Peter remarried, he and his second wife, Soumaya Akaaboune,[44] a Moroccan actress with whom Elliot had a strained relationship,[45] had a son together, Elliot's half-brother.

The 12 stories of Leverett Towers (1960) were erected as an adjunct to Leverett’s existing McKinlock Hall (1925) on nearby Memorial Drive. This was Harvard’s first experiment with high-rise design and differed greatly from the neo-Georgian style farther up the river. The towers and the elevated library form a natural courtyard and stage, and thus a Commencement ceremony space as well. Kirkland is the only River House with a twin-chimneyed gable connected by a horizontal parapet bridge. The distinguishing feature matches Massachusetts Hall, the oldest surviving building at Harvard, which houses the president and administrative offices. A sundial painted with the Harvard motto Veritas decorates the south wall of Smith Hall.

It contained interviews with Rob Schnapf, David McConnell, and Pete Krebs. The book received mixed reviews, with Publishers Weekly remarking that while "Nugent manages to patch together the major beats of Smith's life, he can offer little meaningful insight". Elliot Oliver Robertson Rodger (July 24, 1991 – May 23, 2014) was an English-American former college student, and the sole perpetrator of the 2014 Isla Vista killings.

The dorms are beautiful, and the house is always open to accessibility requests. Winthrop House, with its three river-facing courtyards, is an arresting site for walkers along the Charles. The three main structures are Gore and Standish halls (1913), similar in size, and the Beren Hall (2017). Wrought-iron gates link the buildings with elaborate “G” and “S” designs marking the entrances. The boxy, modernist side of Quincy House, right, was added in 1958; while Stone Hall, previously called Old Quincy, dates back to 1930, and was part of the building boom under President Lowell.

Gun control and mental health

Faculty Deans Eric Beerbohm and Leslie Duhaylongsod like to say that Quincy — “the people’s house” — lives up to its name even in its hybrid look. “Our inclusiveness starts with its two structures — the superb joining of Stone Hall’s neo-Georgian with New Quincy’s boxy modernism,” Beerbohm said. According to architect Bainbridge Bunting, (new) Quincy House showed the designers’ efforts to give international style an American form. They substituted Harvard red brick with white stucco and used limestone trim along with varied window designs. The organization of Quincy House around a courtyard, however, follows traditional Harvard guidelines.

Meet-cutes aside, since each entryway consists of a wide range of students, there are many opportunities to meet new people from different years. Eliot House is one of twelve undergraduate residential Houses at Harvard University. Opened in 1931, the house was named after Charles William Eliot, who served as president of the university for forty years (1869–1909). While almost every residential house on campus has its own library, the beauty and coziness of the Eliot House Library can rival that of any other library on campus. Further, the library overlooks the Charles river and Harvard boathouses.

Made up of six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, Richie, 24, and Grainge, 30, purchased the home last summer, records show. Officials believe two people fired at law enforcement, Jennings said. The violence broke out as the task force was serving a warrant on a suspect in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The subject, who was not publicly identified, began shooting with a high-powered rifle, Jennings said.

Wall Street firms in recent years have spent billions aggressively scooping up single-family homes with cash — but a growing number of US lawmakers and state officials want to put an end to the controversial practice. In 21 of the 50 largest U.S. metros, the typical monthly cost of owning is at least 50% more expensive than the typical monthly cost of renting. Four of the five top metros with the largest gap are in the West, where the cost of living tends to be higher, Bankrate said. With such a large gap between what it takes to buy versus renting a home, Americans who are already financially stretched should feel confident they're making the right choice to rent right now, said Bankrate Analyst Alex Gailey. In response to lawmakers who have been critical of companies’ homeownership, the firms have argued that renting out single-family homes gives renters the ability to live in desirable neighborhoods where they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a home, The Journal reported. The laws would also require the firms to sell off any more they already own. Publicly traded home-buying firms Invitation Homes and Tricon Residential, as well as wealth managers and pension funds such as CalPERS and Invesco, were also gearing up for a real estate shopping spree at the time, per The Real Deal. Despite the increasingly unaffordable housing market — where mortgage rates are high and inventory is low — first-time homebuyers are now also presented with the challenge of competing with Wall Street-backed investment firms and their all-cash offers, The Journal reported.

A recent Bankrate survey found 42% of Americans believe now is a bad time to buy a house. If you live in the big city, it’s officially better to rent than buy a home pretty much anywhere, according to financial products comparison site Bankrate. For weekly email updates on residential real estate news, sign up here. The house won a Society of American Registered Architects’ design award. Agents in markets like Los Angeles and New York chase stardom as fervently as they chase deals. “When we bought the house, we knew we’d have to remodel it,” said Mr. Oberg, 47, who works in investor relations and mergers and acquisitions at a public company. For a long time, Alicia and Craig Oberg disliked their house so much that they didn’t want to invite anyone over. And though most calls to block large companies from buying up homes comes from Democratic officials, some Republicans have joined the crackdown — including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
